Questions to Ask at a Transfer Fair

Academic

  • What are the most popular majors on your campus?
  • Do you offer _____________ major?
  • Is there a minimum grade point average (GPA) for acceptance to the college?
  • When does the college make admissions decisions?
  • Is there a minimum number of courses I must take at your college (academic residency requirement) to earn my degree?
  • What GPA would you like transfer students to have?
  • At what point will I not need SAT/ACT scores or high school transcripts?
  • Are there a maximum number of credits I can transfer in?  Maximum in my major? Maximum from a community college?
  • If I graduate from the community college, will I be able to finish my program in 60 more credits at your institution, or two years (the answer will be dependent on your major)?
  • How many credits do I have to take in residence to graduate with honors?
  • What year will I be considered when I enter?
  • How and when will I register for my first semester?
  • What type of assessments will I have to do at your college?
  • Is there a difference between transfer in the fall or spring?
  • What will be the average size up my upper level major classes?
  • What general education requirements will I have to fulfill while I am at your college?

Housing

  • Are transfer students guaranteed housing?
  • Are there different types of housing?
  • Do you have wellness dorms? Dorms for non-traditional aged students? Dorms for families?
  • Do students tend to stay around on weekends?
  • Is there an office on campus to help find off-campus housing?
  • Is there off-campus housing near campus?

Other

  • What is the crime rate for the campus?
  • What are the most commonly reported crimes?
  • How is the parking situation?
  • Is there an escort service for students walking on campus at night?
  • Is there bus service around campus?
  • What type of student clubs are available?
  • Do you have a place on campus for non-traditional aged students to meet?
