CLEP®: College-Level Examination Program
The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP®) offers you the opportunity to receive college credits for what you already know by earning qualifying scores on any of the exams we offer. Cape Cod Community College offers 32 of the 33 exams; College Composition Modular is the one exam we do not offer. The exams are administered at 1,800 colleges and universities in the United States and abroad: 2,900 institutions award college credit to those who perform well on them. These exams allow people who have acquired comprehensive subject knowledge through independent or prior study, on-the-job training, or cultural pursuits – to show that they have the understanding of college-level material. The examination results are used by colleges to award credit to entering and adult students completing their education. CLEP® can help you: earn 3-6 college credits, save tuition dollars ($80.00 per exam until June 30, 2017; beginning July 1, 2017 the cost will increase to $85.00 per exam), graduate on time and add flexibility to your degree program.
CLEP® examinations cover material usually taught in the first two years of college. A college often grants the same amount of credit for a CLEP® exam that it grants for the equivalent course. Each exam is approximately 90 minutes long and, is made up primarily of multiple choice questions (except for College Composition which has two essays in addition to the multiple choice and allows 120 minutes). All exams are administered on computer offering the following advantages:
Consult with your academic advisor to find out which CLEP® exams are accepted and what score is considered for successful completion. Each institution develops their own CLEP® policy.
