   FROM CAPE COD COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Free Tax Preparation Services On Campus Now Through April 17

The Volunteer Tax Assistance Program (VITA) offered by faculty and student volunteers of the Business Program at Cape Cod Community College is now accepting reservations for tax form preparation. These are IRS trained volunteers who will, at no charge, assist low to moderate income individuals and families ($54,000 maximum income). They do not do Business Returns.

The key is having all of your documentation ready for the preparer, including:

  • Income documents like W-2, 1099, etc.
  • Credit documentation like daycare, tuition, student loan interest, etc.
  • Deduction documentation like mortgage interest, real estate taxes, rent etc.
  • Health insurance documentation like 1099-HC, 1095, etc.
  • 2016 tax returns.
  • Cancelled check if you want direct deposit of any refund.

To file, a photo ID and a social security card MUST be presented for anyone whose income is shown on the return, such as spouses doing a joint return. Children/dependents named on the return MUST have a social security number and their card must be presented to the preparer. Individuals seeking to have a return prepared must also know the answer to the question, “Are you a dependent of another person?” such as a parent or guardian.

The College’s volunteers will “e-file” both the Federal and State tax return for free.

Appointments are available:

  • Tuesdays: 10:00am–11:00am & 2:00pm–5:00pm
  • Wednesdays: 5:30pm–8:30pm
  • Thursdays: 10:00am–11:00am & 2:00pm–5:00pm

The program will not be providing services March 12–17, during the College’s Spring Break. It cannot provide services on days when the College is closed by inclement weather.
