College Welcomes John G. Flores, Ph.D. of Cummaquid, to its Board of Trustees

Barnstable Town Councilor, John G. Flores. Ph.D. of Cummaquid, has been appointed to the Cape Cod Community College Board of Trustees by Governor Charles Baker. In joining the Board, he brings decades of diverse experience in both pre k-12 and higher education. Currently, he is Executive Director / CEO and a Board member of the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) located in Boston. USDLA represents the global distance learning market as the industry’s leading professional association. The new CCCC Board member’s expertise in the area of E-Learning, Educational Leadership, and On-Line Curriculum Development is recognized worldwide.

John FloresIn a former role, he brought together on-line learning partnerships with global corporations, universities, businesses, professional associations, and school systems when he served as Executive Dean and Professor at Nova Southeastern University’s, Abraham S. Fisher School of Education in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Since retiring from the University, he continues to teach Educational Leadership graduate level on line courses and advises students who are in the dissertation stage of earning their Doctorate degree.

In the past, he has taught varied aspects of Instructional Media at UMass Boston, and sits on the Board of Visitors there, where he is the Advisory Board Chair for its Graduate College of Education. Prior to moving into higher education he held a number of pre k-12 education positions including Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent of Schools. In addition he served as an Executive Director of a State Agency during the Weld / Cellucci administrations. Subsequently, he entered the corporate world helping to establish successful on line education companies.

In making the appointment, Governor Baker noted, “Lieutenant Governor Polito and I appreciate your willingness to serve the Commonwealth in this capacity. Congratulations on your appointment, and best wishes for success.”

Dr. Flores stated, “I am honored and excited to be appointed to the Cape Cod Community College Board of Trustees by Governor Baker. My primary goal will be to ensure academic excellence and fiscal responsibility coupled with a commitment to transparency with everyone associated with the college. In particular, offering the best courses and opportunities to all learners no matter one’s age will be a priority for me. I look forward to working collaboratively with everyone at the college. “

Cape Cod Community College President John Cox recently welcomed the new Board Member to campus, where they talked about the state of the College today, and common goals moving forward.

“I’m very pleased to welcome John, and recognize his depth of experience in key aspects of higher education that are so important to our students. I applaud his commitment to excellence in all that we offer here at the College,” stated President Cox.

Flores will join the Board at its next meeting, early in February.
