Microsoft Excel is one of the most powerful and versatile business tools. This course will help students familiarize themselves with basic functions, formulas, commands and keystrokes. Microsoft Office Workplace Integration (WIT128-64)

In this course, students will learn how to use the features of Microsoft Office 2013, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, using step-by-step, easy-to-follow instructions. This course is geared toward employees who are looking to enhance their MS office software skills in the workplace and can be customized to student needs in the classroom.

Students will explore Word, where they will get experience using the new Start screen, templates, and Ribbon commands. Students will master new features in graphics and tables as well as the new Reviewing features and Office apps (some great mini-programs you can add to Office), and learn how to work with PDFs in Word. In Excel, students will learn to speed up their work using the Quick Analysis tool, Flash Fill, and some great new chart features. In PowerPoint, students will discover new ways to make your presentations look better than ever, including themes, graphics, shapes, colors, and animation. Students will also learn how to use the new Presenter view and commenting features, and how to present your slide show in an online meeting.

The course provides participants with instruction in Basic Life Support (CPR) according to the guidelines of the American Heart Association (AHA). Upon successful completion of the course, students receive their AED and CPR certification. This class will be held at the West Barnstable Campus. This course fulfills the CPR certification requirement for the Personal Trainer Fitness Certification course.

Chemical Dependency: Understanding Dental Implications with Addiction, and Recovery (WHD008-64)

Substance abuse may have been a national concern but is now deemed a crisis/epidemic. A dental professional may find themselves interacting with people who abuse drugs such as tobacco products, alcohol, cocaine, heroin, marijuana, and methamphetamine and prescription medications. It is important for oral health professionals to be able to identify problems of abuse and to provide informed care or referral. Oral implications of chemical dependency and abuse need to be considered in all phases of the dental hygiene care plan. Following the sharing of a personal story of dependency, abuse and recovery, the dental professional will have a greater understanding of treatment concerns and options.

The student will be able to:

  1. Identify patterns of dependency and abuse.
  2. Discriminate drugs of choice and identify impacts on the body and mind.
  3. Discuss various treatment options that patient’s may/ are engaged in.
  4. Identify oral signs of substance abuse and the chemicals within the drugs that cause hard or soft tissues changes.
  5. Discuss care plan modifications and strategies for a chemically dependent person.

Unrestricted Construction Supervisors Exam Prep (WPG078-63)

This license is for those who wish to be licensed for construction, reconstruction, alteration, repair, removal, or demolition involving any activity regulated by the code. This license includes all of the Specialty Licenses. With this Unrestricted CSL, building permits can be applied for and obtained through the Building Departments in Massachusetts towns. This course is 6 weeks of intense training and testing to equip students to take and pass the 75 question exam. Course will include AAB regulations, OSHA, IECC energy code 2012, IRC and IBC 2009 Codes with Mass amendment. Students must have the AAB and OSHA regulations the first day. A comprehensive review and examination of the MA State Building Code will be provided to prepare construction professionals for the state license exam. Candidates must have proof of at least three plus years of construction experience required for eligibility to take state exam. MA State Building Code Books required. Our goal is to look at brand consistency and strategies for better online and offline visibility.

Class 3 – Integrating the Brands
In this final session, we will look at how to integrate your personal brand with your business brand. We will look at case studies of how individuals mix their brand with their corporate or business identity. We will finish with individual strategies for your business and the power of teamwork within and outside the walls of your business.

Local Anesthesia Refresher (WHD007-63) *cancelled due to low enrollment

This hands-on local anesthesia course will focus on refreshing and/or updating skills in delivering injections. Local anesthesia techniques will be demonstrated to improve success rate and troubleshoot difficult anatomy. Time will be spent on the Inferior Alveolar injection, Posterior Superior Alveolar injection and helpful injection technique tips for infiltration and nerve blocks. Recent graduates as well as experienced hygienists are welcome. In order to register for this course, participants must hold current Massachusetts Permit L licensure. Please feel free to come to this course with any questions or problems you have encountered during your practice as a licensed “Massachusetts Permit L” clinician. This course will provide a comprehensive study of local dental anesthetics utilized in the
dental hygiene profession. During lecture and lab components, the participant will
learn to safely administer topical and local dental anesthetics.

Course # WHD002 is taught in two phases, and includes 11 hours of on-line pre-study exercises and assignments, 12 hours of on-site didactic instruction, and 14 hours of on-site clinical instruction. It is specifically designed to provide the participant with the 35 hours of local anesthesia instruction required to prepare the participant to take the NERB Local Anesthesia Examination and obtain the “Permit L” Local Anesthesia licensure from the State of Massachusetts. (This course covers the Massachusetts Rules and Regulations 234 CMR 3.09-3.14, and the requirements for administration of local dental anesthetics by dental hygienists.) The Pet CPR & First Aid Program is a six hour class dedicated to help keep cats and dogs healthy. Would you consider a career with a nationwide median salary of $49,900 and a projected growth of 27% over the next ten years? As more organizations develop employee wellness programs and fit-conscious baby boomers seek professionals to help with their workouts, the demand for personal trainers is increasing. Our 62-hour personal trainer certification program includes 16 hours of lecture, 16 hours of practical training and a 30-hour internship. High school diploma or GED is required. Students must obtain Adult CPR & AED certification in order to receive certification. Attendance is mandatory. Students must attend all sessions in order to qualify to take the national exam.
