The Application Process
GRADUATING STUDENTS ELIGIBLE FOR MASSTRANSFER OR JOINT ADMISSIONS:
- Decide if you are eligible for MassTransfer or Joint Admissions by going to the links at the CCCC Transfer homepage or contact the CCCC Transfer Advisor.
- If you are eligible, then use the free MassTransfer application or Joint Admissions 'Intent to Enroll' form. Find these at the CCCC Transfer office or at the links at the CCCC Transfer homepage. The application directions are attached to the application/form.
- Fill out the application/form and send it directly to the college/university(s) you are interested in applying to. The beginning of your last semester is a good time to send the application/form. These programs guarantee automatic acceptance with a 2.5 GPA (unless a higher GPA is stipulated for certain programs).
- Submit a transcript request form to the CCCC Registrar’s office and that office will send your transcript directly to the college/university(s). Usually you will request twice, once at the beginning of your last semester and at the end of the semester so your final transcript indicating graduation will be sent also.
- Request transcripts from any other college(s) you attended and have those transcripts sent directly to the college/university(s).
- Make sure FAFSA information is sent to the college/university(s) you are applying to.
- About 2 weeks after sending the application(s) contact the college/university(s) and make sure they received all the information you sent.
- Wait! Each college processes applications differently and respond at different times.
- For MassTransfer or Joint Admissions it never hurts to send a late application because it is a free process and there is nothing to lose (except being told you are too late and there is no more room for that semester).
ALL OTHER STUDENTS APPLYING FOR TRANSFER IN THE MA STATE SYSTEM:
- Apply to the college/university(s) with a regular application. There are three ways to access an application. Print one off a college’s website, request that one be sent to you or decide if you will do it on-line (this is the preferred method of application). You can also check to see if a particular college uses the Common Application (www.commonapp.org). The Common Application can be submitted to multiple colleges.
- Students on financial may check with the financial aid office to see if you are eligible for an application fee waiver letter which can be used instead of paying an application fee. If you use this letter you should apply with a paper application.
- Look for a page in the application or on the website that gives you the deadlines and the required information that must be sent. Use it to guide you and as a checklist. This page will tell you if you must submit high school transcripts, GED or SAT/ACT scores (this requirement is based on the number of college credits you have).
- Look at the topics for the essay, if required. Did you write an essay in one of your classes (English Composition I?) that you might revise and submit? Have someone proofread your essay; the colleges will be looking at how you write, not just what you write. Check your spelling and grammar; don’t just rely on spell-check.
- Submit a transcript request form to the CCCC Registrar’s office and that office will send your transcript directly to the college/university(s). Usually you will request twice, once at the beginning of your last semester and at the end of the semester so your final transcript indicating final grades or graduation will be sent also.
- Send High School transcripts and SAT/ACT scores if required.
- Deadlines are important but not always firm. If it is beyond a deadline, check with college/university(s) to see if they are still accepting applications.
