| | | | | Four More High Schools Join College Connection, BringingTotal to Nine Beginning in September, the pathway to higher education for seniors at nine area high schools will be even clearer as they participate in College Connection. Four new members to College Connection were welcomed Monday June 1, 2009. New participants: Chatham, Harwich, Nauset and Cape Cod Regional Technical high schools; join with Barnstable, Dennis-Yarmouth, Bourne, Falmouth and Upper Cape Regional Tech. The college entrance assistance program, now in its third year, brings professionals from Cape Cod Community College directly into the high schools to demystify the world of higher education, and to assist seniors and their families in completing the application and entrance process, no matter where they hope to attend. | "Plus50" Leadership Brings International Conference Opportunity
The College's leadership in serving the "Plus50" learner was again shared recently as Dean Susan Miller (center) joined Christine R. Donnolo, Associate Dean of Continuing Education, Workforce and Community Development, Luzerne Community College (at the podium); and Mary Sue Vickers, (left) Director, Plus 50 Initiative, American Association of Community Colleges; in presenting at the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development's (NISOD) International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence in Austin TX. Presenting: Is Your Campus Ready for the Plus 50 Learner, the team focused on the importance of developmentally appropriate advising and academic support services, and community collaborations in outreach to "Boomers." CCCC is one of five colleges selected nationwide by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) to mentor others as we continue to grow our own services to 'seasoned' learners. |
Commencement's Speaker Challenges Students to Continue Succeeding Even in Tough Times
Christy Sharp of Hyannis presented the Student Speech on Thursday May 28th during Commencement ceremonies. She urged her fellow graduates to continue to persevere in challenging times. She concluded..." We are all ready. May our will to succeed always outshine our adversities and our willingness to give over shadow all obstacles!...It is time to go forth and enjoy the prosperities we have earned from all our hard work." Life-Saving First Responders Get Standing Ovation
Very early into the Spring semester, the unthinkable happened. Adjunct Professor Philip Fetzer was stricken with a life-threatening heart attack as he left class. With the ultimate in professionalism, life-saving skills, and true compassion, first responders Public Safety Officers Steve Chapman and Larry Perry, along with the College's Director of Health Services Michael Dallaire, RN began CPR procedures within minutes of the attack and are credited with saving their colleague's life. During the College's Annual Awards ceremony Wednesday May 27th, Fetzer's son, Matt, emotionally thanked all involved and gave the entire College community a sense of just how much the first-responders' actions meant to the family. The entire room stood giving loud applause to all involved.

"Golden Apple Award" to Kate Martin The members of the College's chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society of the two-year colleges, selected Professor Kate Martin as their "Golden Apple" honoree for 2009. Ongoing Campus Events and News COMCAST Channel 98 The College's COMCAST cable channel 98 broadcasts videos of on-campus events recorded and produced by media specialist Adam Farrell, and announcements of up-coming events and special courses/seminars. The channel is seen through much of the Cape. When College programs are not running, Classic Arts Showcase, a public satellite-delivered service of a wide variety of performances, is shown on the channel. |

Information Sessions are important to attend if you are considering enrollment in any of the Health Science programs. Prospective students learn up-to-date information about course offerings, curriculum, support services and the admissions process. IMPORTANT! Students registering for health career courses must provide complete documentation of required immunizations prior to the start of classes. This may take several months to complete.
