Industry advisors to the CCCC Environmental Technology Program have indicated that there is a dire need for instruction and assistance in GIS technology for the region's town and county employees, including natural resource managers, water superintendents, planners, health officials, police and fire officials, and building inspectors.
CCCC established a GIS Certificate in 1996; the goal of this AACC grant is to expand the existing GIS offerings to address the need for basic GIS training in two ways:
- Developing and offering workshops for town officials in basic and intermediate use of GIS at the centrally located CCCC campus;
- The inclusion of GIS instruction within existing curriculum and coursework in the Environmental Technology Program.
Monies from this grant supported an ATE designated mentor who is a GIS expert to educate and advise our faculty about the expansion of GIS education and training for the community and CCCC students.
