Nonprofit organizations and other grant seekers on Cape Cod and the Islands looking for funding sources have access to a valuable collection of resources at the Wilkens Library.

Logo of the National Foundation CenterThe Wilkens Library at Cape Cod Community College is a Cooperating Collection affiliate of the National Foundation Center (FC). The Foundation Center's mission is to strengthen the nonprofit sector by advancing knowledge about U.S. philanthropy. The Cooperating Collection contains information on potential funding from foundations, corporations, the public sector and other sources for nonprofit organizations and individuals. Materials in the collection include guides on grant seeking, proposal writing, other means of fund raising, and texts on nonprofit management/board leadership and giving, and voluntarism/volunteerism.

The Wilkens Library is also affiliated with Associated Grant Makers, a regional association of grant makers in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Hours

The materials in the FC Cooperating Collection are available during regular library hours. An appointment is not required, but is recommended for the first time visitor or if consultation with a librarian is desired.

Online Databases

The Associated Grantmakers of Massachusetts (AGM) Grant Makers Directorygives the grant seeking community basic information on which to build a comprehensive list of potential supporters.  The database, searchable in the Reference Room of the Wilkens Library only, is searchable by organization name, grant maker type, staff/trustee name, program interest, support type, geographic or population focus.  See a librarian if you would like to search the AGM Grant Makers Directory.

The Foundation Directory Onlineis the most comprehensive and current online source on foundation grants. Access toThe Foundation Directory Online database is available in the library. Remote access is not available. the Foundation Directory Online includes detailed information on 76,000+ foundations, with links to current foundation 990-PF tax filings, crucial facts on 350,000 grants, including the purpose of the grant, and a searchable index of 337,000+ trustees, officers, and donors. The database also includes a tutorial on how to search the Foundation Directory Online as well as links to FAQs, and additional resources.

Foundation Grants to individuals online is a database of programs that award grants to individuals. Foundation Grants to Individuals Online is available for in-library use only. Remote access is not available. This unique online foundation database of over 5,600 grant programs for individuals is searchable by foundation name, foundation city, foundation state, field of interest, type of support, geographic focus, company name, school name, and free text.

Training Opportunities

The Wilkens Library will announce workshops on effective use of Foundation Center resources for individuals and local non-profit organizations. Check the website for announcements.

The FC Cooperating Collection maintains a current and comprehensive set of reference publications and other aids on all aspects of grant seeking and fund raising. These materials are for in-library use. Patrons of the collection may want to allow for extended or frequent visits to the FC Cooperating Collection in order to conduct thorough and effective searches.

Selection of Internet Resources for Grant Seekers

 

The Media collection is located on the Library's ground floor and includes videotapes, cassette tapes, CD's, DVD's, and slides. All titles are fully searchable in the Library's online catalog.

Fillms on Demandnow provides thousands of titles in streaming video on campus and off.

Anyone may view and/or listen to individual titles at viewing stations or rooms any time the library is open. To arrange for viewing, call x4444. Faculty wishing to use media titles in the classroom should call x4444 to arrange to have the item made available for pickup and checkout.

Please note: The Instructional Media Collection is designed for classroom use, therefore most materials do not circulate except to classrooms.

Cape Cod Community College students, faculty, and staff may request books, audiovisual materials, and periodicals via Interlibrary Loan.

  • Books are lent freely unless a service charge is assessed by the responding library.

  • For periodicals, a nominal fee of 10 cents per page is charged, unless an additional service charge is assessed by the responding library. Fees for unclaimed articles will be processed as a library fine.
