Painter and printmaker, BFA Syracuse University, MAT Bridgewater; extensive independent study and graduate work locally and abroad. Studied printmaking with Tetsuo Ochikubo, Constance Jacobson, Michael Mazur, Ron Pokrasso and Robert Siegelman; painting with Ron Rizzi, Lois Griffel, Rosalie Nadeau, Don Stone, Skip Whitcomb, Don Demers and Joe McGurl.
Wherever I paint, it seems to be the same kind of imagery. . .standing on the edge of a cliff looking out over a vast expanse of earth, ocean and sky. A quiet sanctuary where my spirit soars and I hear my own thoughts. I feel the strength and renewability of nature, and attempt to capture that passion in my site-specific paintings and monotype.
The discipline of painting en plein air with a pochade box of oil paints inspires site-specific monotypes, which are paintings transferred to paper using a manual etching press. The same passion for place must be rekindled in the printmaking studio using a brayer instead of a brush.
Joyce has painted en plein air since 1987, when she had the opportunity to stay in the Peaked Hills Trust dune shacks for a week on three occasions, and experienced the fragility and beauty of coastal Cape Cod from dawn to dusk. She continues that experience with annual stays at the Sladeville cabins with the 21 in Truro painting group, yearly trips to Martha?s Vineyard, and weekly painting trips with Plein Air Painters of Cape Cod. Regular painting trips to France, Italy, Germany, Greece and CA have also provided further opportunities to enlarge her vision. Recent commissioned work includes a painting for Pfizer Inc. in Cambridge, MA, monotypes at Bowditch & Dewey in Boston, and twelve monotypes for Beth Israel/Deaconess Hospital in Boston. Five oils of Boston are at Boston City Hall May 21-Sept. 1, ?05.
Zavorskas has taught printmaking for 30 years and continues to teach in her Orleans studio as well as regional Art Centers, including Copley Society Summer Workshops, Master Printmaker at Contemporary Artists Center in North Adams, MA, assistant to Michael Mazur at Fine Arts Work Center, Provincetown, and Printmaking instructor at Simmons College and Bridgewater State College. She exhibits with the Boston Printmakers, Monotype Guild of New England, and Printmakers of Cape Cod, as well as regional and national juried exhibitions, and 21 in Truro exhibitions. She received the Adrian Tinsley Award for Excellence in the Arts from Bridgewater State College in April 2005, and will be Visiting Artist and have a solo exhibition at Cape Cod Community College in September.
