Overview of Coaches & Mentors Career Services
Our
Career Specialist assists students in formulating career plans by
providing a variety of support services and resources necessary to
develop a targeted, focused career path. The desired outcome is that
students are highly satisfied with their choices and successfully
attain their educational and career goals.
Career Counseling and Exploration
Career
interest inventories and self-assessment exercises assist students in
further clarifying and understanding how their values and interests
affect their career preferences. Individual counseling appointments
with the Career Specialist help students become more aware of the many
options available to them and how their unique talents, background and
skills might fit into a specific career options.
In addition, the
Career Specialist assists students in discovering the many resources
available for learning about a variety of specific job descriptions,
salary information and more general job availability projections. In
their search and discovery process.
Preparation for the Job Search
While
students are encouraged to attend our regularly scheduled workshops on
Resume Writing and Interviewing Strategies offered in both the Fall and
Spring Semesters, individual resume appointments are also offered to
assist in the preparation of a professional, high quality resume.
Students are encouraged to create a rough draft of their resume prior
to their appointment with the Career Specialist. The appointment time
will then be used to revise, customize and refine the students' resume.
Also,
individual appointments are available to students who would like
assistance in learning and sharpening their interviewing skills to
develop a more effective, results oriented job search.
Job Placement Assistance
The
Career Specialist strives to assist all Coaches & Mentors students
to prepare for, locate and secure professional job opportunities by
providing the following services listed:
- Resume Bank - student resumes are kept on file and referred to appropriate employers as opportunities occur.
Career Plan
New Coaches
& Mentors students are required to meet with the Career Specialist
to complete an individualized career plan. The career plan is a four
step self-evaluation and discovery process which will take place during
a students first year at CCCC.
Step 1 - Self-assessment Inventory - review your values, interests and preferences as they relate to specific job families.
Step 2 - Discover your Self-assessment results - Obtain resources on occupational information. Begin to formulate short-term goals.
Step 3 - Informational Interviewing
- Continue to research one or two career areas of interest by speaking
with a professional employed in your chosen career area. (support and
assistance provided)
Step 4 - Wrap-up/Results - Are you on the right path?
