Basic Skills Assessment
The purpose of the Skills Assessment is to assist you in identifying your academic strengths and weaknesses in English, reading comprehension, and mathematics. Your results will help to determine the appropriate course level in English, mathematics, science and other related courses, so that you can enhance your success at Cape Cod Community College.
Skills assessments must be taken by students enrolling in accounting, English composition, mathematics or science courses and any other course with a prerequisite requirement. Exceptions will be made for students who have successfully completed comparable college courses and have their transfer credits on file at the Registrar's Office.
Student scores are valid for three years. Students are allowed to retest once in each area for a fee of $7. This fee will be billed and mailed to the students by the Business Office. The Advising Center offers mathematics and English workshops. Please call 1-508-362-2131 x4318 for availability of scheduled workshops.
For students submitting an application to the Admissions Office for matriculation into the College, the assessment is mandatory unless prior course credit or test results are available and valid. Assessments are available in reading comprehension, English and mathematics.
If you have recently applied for admission for the Fall 2008 semester, you will receive specific information in the mail from the Assessment Center regarding your Assessment, Advising, and the registration process. Please do not schedule an appointment for the dates below.
All assessments will take place in the Assessment Center - Grossman Commons Building (2nd floor). You should bring a #2 pencil and personal identification.
Assessment appointments for non-matriculated students only are available at:
- 5:00pm (one subject area only: English/Reading Comprehension or Mathematics),
- 6:00pm (all subject areas: English, Reading Comprehension and Mathematics), or
- 7:15pm (all subject areas: English, Reading Comprehension and Mathematics) on the following Wednesday evenings:
