Recommended to liberal arts students but open to anyone with an interest in Austria’s treasures and the German language. Participants will be based in Avignon, a thriving city in southern France, known for its museums, restaurants, St. Benezet Bridge, and the famous Palace of the Popes. Guided day trips will be made to neighboring places such as Nimes, the Pont du Gard, Vaucluse, Glanum Ruins, Arles, the Camargue, and, of course, the fabled countryside of Provence. Students have direct contact with French college students studying business and economics as well as visits to a variety of businesses. Emphasis is placed on conducting business overseas, currency issues, cultural issues, comparative marketing techniques, and basic international law. Prerequisite: Any 3 credit CCCC business/economics course or permission of instructor. Students will appreciate the close relationship between drawing and writing through sharing their visual and literary expression. Ways of seeing through drawing and writing will be examined and the use of language both visual and literal will be applied and understood through exploring Scotland, the land, culture, and people. The course will expose students to the beauty, the tragedy and the glory of Ireland, through its scholarship, people and poetry. From two strategic locations, Dublin and Galway, students will embark on an exploration of Ireland with daylong field trips, lectures, and cultural opportunities.
